New Alien Book

May 27, 2004 (General News)
palisades queen Continuum Books has just published a book entitled Alien Woman: The Making of Lt. Ripley by Ximena Gallardo-C. and C. Jason Smith which examines the construction of sex and gender in the four science-fiction films comprising the Alien saga.

Alien Woman examines the construction of sex and gender in the four science-fiction films compirisng the Alien saga (starring Sigourney Weaver). The Alien saga stands alone in presenting an enduring, self-reliant female protagonist, Ripley, who in the first film ends up as the sole survivior of the beleaguered starship Nostromo. Subsequent writers and directors in the 1980s and 1990s, left to grapple with this strong female protagonist, re-envision Ripley to for different social, political, and cultural imperatives for women. Alien Woman focuses on how these writers and directors have re-written Ripley and how each revision informs our understanding of women in science fiction. And by examining the films' creation and commodification of the female hero, the books illustrates how changing attitudes toward women and the female body help us understand broader societal beliefs and relationships, and provides a useful lens with which to understand woman's place in the late 20th century and early 21st century.

New AvP Trade Paperback

May 6, 2004 (Comics News)
palisades Dark Horse Comics on Thursday announced Aliens vs. Predator: Thrill of the Hunt Trade Paperback, a new 96-page comic by Mike Kennedy and Roger Robinson.

"In the farthest reaches of space, a creature terrified us. Acid blood. Armored skin. Razor-sharp teeth. No mercy. In the depths of a rain forest, another creature hunted us. Perfect camouflage. Fearsome weapons. Brutal methods. No conscience. In 2004, these monsters clashed on Earth in the greatest battle the universe has ever known. But far in the future, long after a technological catastrophe that started a second Dark Age, all memory of these two species has been forgotten. And when Mankind again reaches for the stars, we will discover that, truly, those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Once again, Man is caught in the middle of a deadly struggle.

"Based on this summer's major-motion picture from 20th Century Fox, Alien vs. Predator: Thrill of the Hunt carries the themes and story elements from the film into new territories of action and terror, crafted by Mike Kennedy and illustrator Roger Robinson , all in a value-priced original graphic novel. Cover painting by Society of Illustrators award-winner David Michael Beck."

palisades queen Got an email from Damon Wellner who's updated us on his latest projects:

"I thought you and your readers might like to know, Probot Productions, makers of Hasbro's Action Figure Theater, have a new film coming out this summer: Alien 5-squared.

It's the sequel to Probot's 1998 film, Alien 5, and we feel it is the best action-figure adventure we have produced yet. We hope to give Alien fans what they have been waiting for, and won't be getting from Alien vs Predator. Ripley's worst fears have come true and the Aliens have gotten loose on Earth! The movie features Hasbro's Aliens series action figures, and this time we brought back the Marines and threw in a few Mcfarlane Toys as well...

Hope all is well. Keep up the good work.

AvP Update From Starfest

April 17, 2004 (AvP News)
palisades queen Got an update on from R. Sterling the Alien vs. Predator presentation this weekend at Starfest. Beware, spoiler-ish material to follow:

I got a promo coin that says AvP on it, and has Aliens & Predator on both sides; a promo hat that says Weyland Industries on it. The footage featured clips from the movie that have never been shown before, it showed the Predator's weapons and what they look like. And it had a quick little scene with the three preds on the top of the pyrimid fighting the aliens. I'll get you the pics shortly. Is that cool, or is that cool?!"

New Aliens Crossover Comic

March 8, 2004 (Media News)
quadrilogy Over at Planet AvP there's a news mention on an upcoming Aliens/Predator/Batman/Superman crossover:

Wizard magazine (a comic book-movie mag) has reported on an upcoming Superman/Batman/Aliens/Predator comic book that's coming to a bookstore near you; it could even be out this May! The storyline finds Superman and Batman investigating a volcanic eruption in the Andes Mountains -- where they find a whole mess of Aliens and Predators in "hidden caverns."

Of course, DC Comics (Superman and Batman) and Dark Horse Comics (Aliens and Predator) are collaborating on making this quadruped crossover. More specifically, writer Steve Schultz and artist Ariel Olivetti are working as a team to bring this two-issue "Prestige-Format" mini-series to life.

"I'm a big fan of the 'Alien' and 'Predator' films, both of which I consider top-flight horror and science fiction adventure," says Schultz. "And since I worked on both properties for Dark Horse, and have had a long stint writing Man of Steel, I guess I was considered familiar enough to an acceptable job."

For more info over at Planet AvP, click here!

You can view three pages from the comic, here!

Palisades Queen Micro Bust Now Shipping

February 26, 2003 (General News)
palisades Palisades Toys is pleased to present their first polystone statue based on Alien 3 - the Alien Queen Chestburster. Although it appeared on screen for only a few brief seconds - and never in plain sight - the Queen Chestburster played a pivotal role in the film. Ripley's horror at being the host for the Queen was compounded by her realization that her status as incubator was the only thing that saved her from the Dog Alien. Ripley's suicide scene - her sacrificial plunge into the molten lead in order to kill the Queen Chestburster - was one of the most dramatic moments in the Alien Quadrilogy.

Now, for the first time ever, the infamous newborn Queen Chestburster is rendered in 3 dimensions in the eerie spiral pose made famous by the movie poster. And of course, she includes all of the stunning attention to detail that you have come to expect from Palisades' line of Alien products.

More on Palisades Exclusive Pewter Bust

December 28, 2003 (General News)
palisades It has been almost two years since Palisades Toys launched its hugely successful line of Alien polystone products, and each consecutive piece seems to sell out more quickly than the one before it. And the line shows no signs of slowing down in 2004. The inaugural Palisades Alien piece - long sold out, and perhaps the most difficult to find on the secondary market - was a beautifully detailed version of the Alien creature from the original 1979 film. Now, in celebration of the recent expansion of their Alien license (to include all four films in the series), Palisades is pleased to present a very limited, all-new interpretation of the Alien, made completely out of pewter - the Alien: Special Edition Pewter Mini Bust.

Limited strictly to 750 pieces world-wide, the Alien: Special Edition Pewter Mini Bust is a shared exclusive between AisleSniper.com in the United States and Blister Direct in Japan. Weighing a monstrous twelve pounds, and packaged in a deluxe wooden collectors box (perfect for display), this very limited piece is sure to be highly sought after. "We have held off on producing an Alien exclusive for some time," says Palisades President & CEO, Michael Horn, "However, it has become extremely evident that there is not only a demand for more Alien products, but specifically there is a great demand for high end Alien products. This piece will certainly fill that niche."

The Alien: Special Edition Pewter Mini Bust carries an SRP of $299.99, and is available for pre-order now at AisleSniper.com and Blister.

Palisades Holiday Wrap-Up

December 12, 2003 (General News)
palisades While we're eagerly awating the release of Palisades Toys Alien: Special Edition Bust, they were kind enough to send us review samples of their Aliens Warrior Mini Bust and Predator Defeated Mini Bust. We have to say everyone here is completely blown away at the quality, sculpting and attention to detail Palisades has continually put into their products. The Aliens Warrior bust features an original sculpt of the rarely seen (and in our opinion, not seen enough) James Cameron version of the Alien Warrior. The Predator Defeated bust features an incredible "smashed, battered, bruised, and bleeding" Predator who might look down, but he's certainly not out. We especially *loved* the glow-like green Predator blood oozing from his wounds, in fact, the painting on these polystone busts simply needs to be seen to be believed. Kudos to everyone at Palisades for another job well done.

If you're looking to purchase any of the above items, we suggest Aisle Sniper, Action Figure Express, Darkworlds, and Monsters in Motion. Good luck and happy hunting!

Don't pay 50 bucks to online scalpers, these guys are now available from Hobby Link Japan at this link. If you're lucky enough to own a set, we HIGHLY recommend soaking the parts in hot water before assembly, as the joints can be very fragile. Good luck and don't miss out.

REVIEW: Palisades Alien Queen Bust

March 7, 2003 (General News)
We here at alienscollection.com were lucky enough to get our claws on a review copy of Palisades Alien Queen bust: in short, we love it. The sculpt itself is fantastic, and we're really impressed with the resin jaw "slime" around her mouth, especially how good it looks under close examination. The paint job itself is flawless, perfect tones and shading... Which lead us to the most impressive feature: price. While we wholly support garage kit manufacturers around the world, for those of you who aren't able plop down a hundred plus on a painted and assembled resin kit, the Palisades Queen offers a fantastic alternative. Talk about a lot of bang for your buck, this resin bust had secured itself a center spot here at the home office of this site. The packaging itself was also top-notch - it's nice to see some all new Aliens related product design and not the same old boring retread slapped on Aliens products again and again. Great work Palisades, here's to all the amazing things you've got planned for the future. A pic of the Queen can be seen here and a boxed pic here!

saga Fans of the Alien saga are in for a real treat, as next Wednesday AMC will be airing "The Alien Saga," an extensive look back at all four Alien films.!

"In space, no one can hear you scream." The cracking of the alien egg in the theatrical trailer for Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece, Alien, ushered in a whole new era of science fiction, and created one of the most suspenseful films of all time. The Alien Saga presents the first-ever behind-the-scenes look at all four Alien movies in the series--including screen tests, outtakes, home movies and exclusive interviews with members of cast and crew, and film historians.

DID YOU KNOW?

In three of the four movies Michael Biehn has made with James Cameron -- The Terminator (1984), Aliens (1986) and The Abyss (1989)--his character is bitten on the hand by another character.

Got a ton of email on this one folks. Aliens: The Deluxe Edition Sountrack is now available from amazon.com and other retailers. Collector Marc Cawiezel has this to report:

I found it at Walmart today for $13.88 on CD. Contains a 12 page booklet & released in 2001 by Varese Sarabande with 24 tracks total. Tracks 20-24 contain previously unreleased songs & they are variations/alternate versions of the music. I checked the soundtrack I bought earlier - it has only 19 tracks so this new one DOES contain 5 NEW ones! They are: Bad Dreams (Alternate), Ripley's Rescue (Percussion Only), LV-426 (Alternate edit-film Version), Combat Drop (percussion only) & Hyperspace (Alternate ending).

What can I say, can you believe it? Looks like Christmas has come early. After almost 6 months of living in a cave alienscollection.com is now back. I'm totally exhuasted from a day of entering data and code, so I'll keep this as short as I can. The amazing new layout you see before you is the work of one incredibly talented and dedicated individual, Hans Kim. I just want to say thank you for everything Hans, your friendship and help on this means more than I can say here. I also wanna give a shout out to Mike Rush, photoshop wiz and webmaster over at Harry's site. Mike helped me with most of the buttons you see over there to your right, thanks Mike! Finally I want to thank everyone else out there who has taken the time to send in their comments and encouragement, praise, critiques, contributions and everything else inbetween: as always, this website is for you.

While your busy surfing around the new site and rediscovering some old areas, please note there are several sections which are still under construction. PLEASE be patient. While we will have them all up and online as soon as we can, there are still plenty of bugs to work out. Speaking of which, if you find any, or have any suggestions whatsoever, please let us know!

Well, I guess that's it. As always, enjoy!

-Willie

Oh yeah. I know about the rollover menu button problem. We're workin' on it.

The fine folks over at Fox Interactive have sent in this press release for the soon to be released Alien Resurrection game seen herefor Playstion:

GAME SUMMARY

Alien Resurrection is the ultimate adrenaline-pumping, blood-curdling first-person action game. Inspired by the chilling Fox sci-fi movie, players race against time to eradicate the alien menace and stop the evil Dr. Wren from returning alien specimens to Earth. Players must think fast, think smart and show no mercy as they use awesome firepower to seek out and destroy the most vicious and rapacious enemy mankind has ever faced.

GAME FEATURES

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY: A fully 360 degree first-person 3D polygonal engine with real-time lighting, stunning visual effects and a destructible environment unlike anything seen before delivers next-generation graphics technology on the PlayStation!

VARIED CHARACTER PLAY: Alien Resurrection provides four playable characters, with different skills, abilities and weapons. Take on the role of Ripley, Call, DiStephano, and Christie.

CHALLENGING PUZZLE ELEMENTS: Fast-paced action and adventure is meshed with various problem solving, or strategy elements to provide more intelligent challenge than most action/adventures. Puzzle elements are object oriented, search and destroy and search and rescue.

TERRORIZING ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIO: The game's digital sound effects and ambient background audio created by the movie's Oscar-nominated sound design team, and presented in Dolby Surround for a totally immersive aural experience.

DEPTH OF PLAY: Ten colossal levels stream seamlessly from the CD in the background as you play to provide an immense explorable environment featuring multiple stories, walkways, galleries, rooms, underwater areas and more.

DEADLY WEAPONS: All of the legendary weapons from the Alien world including: Pulse Rifle, Shotgun, Flame-thrower, Pistol, Electro Gun (Burner), Grenade Launcher, Laser Gun and Rocket Launcher, and Christie's surgically-attached dual wrist Pistols.

ALIEN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: Alien Warriors move fluidly between floors, walls, ceilings and vents, communicating telepathically in order to stalk, swarm and decimate their prey using multiple attacks.

ALIEN LIFE CYCLE: Alien Queens lay eggs. Eggs hatch face-huggers, face-hugged humans chest-burst, and chest-bursters grow into Alien Warriors, who collect human hosts - the horrific life cycle continues...

Thanks to Fox and Argonaut!
